Making Memories is a day program for students that offers an investigative exploration of the natural, constructed and managed features of Currumbin Estuary. The day concludes with the students making their own memories by comparing two very different play environments – one constructed and one natural.
While finding and comparing the memories of the Forget-Me-Not characters, students discover the importance of caring for the estuary habitat. Their connection with, and appreciation of the creatures that they discover along the way, ensures that students get a real-world understanding of why some natural environments need to be managed to ensure their preservation. The Making Memories program is designed to foster resilience and independence in students as they actively participate in their walk through the estuary.
Outdoor Learning Curriculum Connections
As Memory Makers, students will develop valuable knowledge, understanding and skills that will be to key to exploring outdoor environments further. The focus on the Humanities and Social Sciences learning areas brings the academic learning of the classroom into a tangible context by comparing historical photos with the same landmarks today, as well as identifying natural and constructed features of a local environment.
