PublishingPageContent

By participating in the Mystery of the Missing Bees program, students will step into role as Bee Detectives and investigate this bee mystery within the context of the Biological Sciences.  The investigation sees students look for native bees while exploring Jellurgal (Burleigh Headland), which means 'Little Bees Nest' in Yugambeh language.  While working to understand why Jellurgal does not have many visible bees, students will look at the lifecycle of different Australian bees.  Jellurgal means.  In addition, students will work to help native bees by caring for Country in a bee-centred way at our Currumbin Valley Campus. Students will develop problem solving skills and a better understanding of themselves and others just like the bees do.

The care that the students share with each other and the environment while on camp gives a foundational experience and understanding of the importance of Conservation and Sustainability.  This program encourages students to act for bees in their local environment.  Their care towards bees is reciprocated at the end of the camp with a special bee-centred experience provided by bees!

Outdoor Learning Curriculum Connections

Students will be encouraged to step into natural environments that offers safe and rewarding challenges, strengthening connections with self, others and the living world.  Experiential and place-responsive learning supports the development of General Capabilities including Personal and Social Capabilities, Intercultural and Ethical Understanding, Critical and Creative Thinking, and the Cross Curriculum Priorities of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Histories and Cultures, and Sustainability.
