PublishingPageContent

Rhythm Discovery is an adventurous learning program designed to support the social and emotional development of young people at an important stage of growth and transition. Using the 'Window of Tolerance' framework for emotional regulation, students explore rhythm as a metaphor for life, from their own internal rhythms to their relationships with others and the interconnected systems of the natural world.

Through drumming circles, challenging outdoor experiences and meaningful reflection, students learn to recognise when they are in different emotional and physiological states: Stormy, Steady and Swampy. Student-centred and experiential learning approaches, combined with the beautiful creeks, forests and mountains of Currumbin Valley, provide opportunities for students to learn through direct experience, stretch beyond their comfort zones, support one another and develop strategies for self and co-regulation. Students leave feeling more confident, with increased resilience and stronger connections with their peers.

Outdoor Learning Curriculum Connections

Through active and reflective learning in unique spaces and places, Rhythm Discovery strengthens connections with self, others and the natural environment. The program supports Health and Physical Education and building Personal and Social Capabilities through practical experiences related to identity, relationships, wellbeing and resilience. Experiential and place-responsive learning allows students to develop self-awareness, empathy and communication in authentic contexts beyond the classroom.

Teacher Testimonial

“The program provided our students with an opportunity to discover their inner rhythm by experiencing outdoor activities that tested their resilience and teambuilding skills. Staff were friendly, supportive and professional. Our students have gained new friendships, increased confidence and developed a greater understanding of nature and mindfulness thanks to this camp." (Teacher - Helensvale State High School)
