Currumbin Valley Rescue is a two-night residential program designed to strengthen students' teamwork skills, confidence and ability to respond positively to challenge and uncertainty. Immersed in the natural surrounds of Currumbin Valley, students are enlisted as cadets and inducted into Alpha, Bravo and Charlie teams. Through an engaging rescue storyline, students work together to develop the three essential cadet skills of Communication, Valuing Others and Resilience.
Students undertake a series of challenges and team missions in all-weather outdoor environments that require them to communicate effectively, make decisions, solve problems and adapt to changing circumstances as they work towards completing their training. Using a student-centred learning approach, students are encouraged to support their peers, take on leadership roles and coordinate group efforts towards a shared goal. Team discussions and guided reflection support students to acknowledge their strengths, consider how their actions influence others and identify strategies to improve their effectiveness as a team. Students leave feeling more confident, with increased resilience and stronger teamwork skills to support their participation and success in everyday life.
Outdoor Learning Curriculum Connections
Through practical learning in outdoor contexts, Currumbin Valley Rescue strengthens connections with self, others and the natural world. The program supports learning in Health and Physical Education and the development of Personal and Social Capabilities. Through collaborative rescue scenarios and challenges in unique natural environments, students practice managing emotions in unfamiliar situations, adapting to setbacks, communicating effectively, contributing to group decision-making, coordinating team efforts and reflecting on their personal growth.
